Patricia Obo-Nai Wins Best CEO of the Year at Africa Telecom Innovations and Excellence Awards

Vodafone Ghana Patricia Obo-Nai has won the Best CEO of the Year at the prestigious Telecommunications Innovations and Excellence Awards. The event is organized alongside the Africa Connected Summit, Africa’s leading telecom and digitalization summit.

The multiple award-winning CEO was recognized for her exceptional leadership within the technology industry.

In a short citation, the organizers extolled her for being an inspiration to millions of girls and women around the world, for being the voice for the unheard, and an inspiration for those who aspire to succeed in life.

The awards are organized by the International Centre for Strategic Alliance (ICSA) to celebrate technology and telecommunications innovations, growth, and leadership across the continent. A total of 21 coveted awards were given to various individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the sector.

Commenting on the awards, Patricia said, “I am really humbled by this recognition. I could not have achieved this on my own. I have done this with my team who have been there for me, and I dedicate this award to them.

“For me, driving purpose and leading from the heart have been core. It is not just about how we make a profit but how we sustain the society in which we operate, and this has been the journey of Vodafone Ghana and what has translated into the results we are all seeing today. Organized under the theme ‘’Championing Connectivity in the Digital Era’’, this year’s edition featured tech and telecommunications experts, CEOs, CIOs, and CTOs from leading organizations across Africa who engaged in constructive dialogue with peers, shared insights, and presented on various topics.

These include Energizing the Data Economy, collaborating at the EDGE – Enhancing Data Throughput, Connectivity to the Metaverse and Beyond, The New Hubs of International Connectivity, Cyber Resilience, transitioning from 4G to 5G – Enabling Digital Transformation, ICT Infrastructure and IoT Deployments.

‘MTN Ghana committed to improving network connectivity’

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to improve network connectivity in the country.

To this end, it said it would expand network connectivity to underserved areas and enhance existing infrastructure to boost both data and voice connectivity.

The Senior Manager, corporate communications, MTN, Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, said this in an interaction with media practitioners and other stakeholders on Friday in Sunyani.

She hinted that the company would be rolling out 400 new sites whilst existing 746 sites would be upgraded to 4G to, among others, help enhance services to the more than 10 million worldwide subscribers of Ayoba, which had about 15 micro applications to provide good services to the customers.

In addition to MTN’s primary mandate, Mrs. Fiagbenu stated that the company had launched a plastic and waste management programme to address the challenges faced in order to drive a sustainable environment.

She announced that the company had spent GH¢ 64million in sustainable community projects made up of 157 social projects: 53 health, 87 education and 13 economic empowerment projects among others.

The head of network in the Northern Sector, Mr. Joseph Asare, in a presentation indicated that from January to June the company recorded 125 fiber cuts which was affecting the company’s operations.

MTN Ghana, in the first half of 2022, contributed about 29.6 per cent of its total revenue, amounting to approximately GH¢1.4 billion in direct and indirect taxes, and payments to governmental agencies according to Ghana’s half year financial results for 2022.

The company he said was in strong support of the government’s developmental projects in digital solutions such as Girls in ICT Extended partnership, ICT Hub project, Accra Innovation City project, and Ghana CARES framework support.
