Leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) on Tuesday February 21, 2023, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to introduce the Institute’s new council members and further explore ways to better collaborate in the future.

The Chief Executive Officer of ICAG, Mr. Kwasi Agyemang, in his opening remarks, mentioned that due to its productive relationship with the Chamber it was only right that the Institute pays the latter a courtesy call. He further assured the Chamber of the institute’s support going forward.

“Talking about collaboration and assisting the Chamber, I would like to say that we are ready to assist in any shape or form, whenever you need us.”

On his part the CEO of the Chamber Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey welcomed the leadership of ICAG and pledged the Chambers’ support for the Institute. He further buttressed the call for increased collaboration amongst institutions and professional bodies. Ing. Dr. Ashigbey spoke of the benefits of such collaboration and assured the leadership of ICAG of the Chamber’s commitment to the Institute, and added he would speak to the leadership of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) to facilitate a collaboration between the two, in order to better shape the fortunes of the country going forward.

“As a Chamber we take the whole issue of membership to various organizations seriously and we are grateful for this relationship. Whatever it is that we can continue to do to further the collaboration, we will do.”

During the interaction, which took place at the premises of the Chamber in Cantonments Accra, the CEO of ICAG mentioned that as part of the new law guiding the accounting profession in Ghana (the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana Act 2020 (Act 1058)), accounting professionals from other parts of the world are now required to pass some local examinations in order to practice in Ghana.

“The new law now expects them to write some country specific papers that they need to pass. For example papers relating to our local tax laws and the likes.”

Speaking about the work and contribution of ICAG, Mr. Agyemang spoke of the training the Institute has provided for countless professionals across the West African Sub-Region and beyond.

Council Members of ICAG

The Governing Council of ICAG, which was sworn into office late, last year by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, is chaired by Sena Dake, the Director of Internal Audit of the University of Ghana, Legon, as President, with Augustine Addo serving as Vice President.

The other members of the Council include Paul Kwasi Agyemang, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ICAG, Agnes Otoo-Yeboah, Emmanuel Mc–Coffie Ankamah, Dr. Isaac Nyame, Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo, Ellen Abena Addo and Dr. David Annan-Bonny — representatives from the Ministry of Education, as well as Dr. Cynthia A. Sallah.
