MTN Ghana Foundation secures 6000 units of blood for the national blood service in its annual ...

MTN Ghana has collected over 5909 units of blood at its 2024 Save-a-Life campaign. The annual campaign organized to augment shortfalls at blood banks in Ghana, saw thousands of people participating at designated bleeding centres in all 16 regions across the country.

Adwoa Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, in her remarks at the opening ceremony in Accra said, “We have all heard, at least in the media, some of the harrowing stories of unfortunate incidents that could easily have been avoided if blood was within easy reach. That is why, we, at the MTN Ghana Foundation together with MTN Employees have taken it upon ourselves to organize this life saving event every Valentine’s Day since 2011 not only to donate blood but also to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donations and show our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community”.

Dr. Steve Paintsil, Medical Officer, National Blood Service, Korle Bu congratulated MTN for the blood donation drive. He said, “the National Blood Service (NBS) sincerely congratulates the MTN Ghana Foundation for organizing yet another nationwide blood donation drive to help stock the nation's blood banks. In most emergency cases, blood must be readily available for transfusion to avert untimely deaths. It is in light of the above, that the National Blood Bank wishes MTN well”.

Voluntary blood donations form only 28.6% of the national blood supply. Maternal health is a leading casualty of the lack of blood. With low levels of blood, healthcare delivery will continue to suffer. Through the Save-a-Life campaign, MTN has provided the much-needed support to the National Blood Bank to help alleviate some of the challenges they face.

With the completion of this year’s blood exercise, MTN Ghana through the Save-a-Life campaign has collected over 31,909 units of blood.

Vodafone Ghana Foundation provides free health screening to Dodi Community

In a significant stride toward community well-being, the Vodafone Ghana Foundation on Friday, November 24, took its bi-monthly Health fest Programme to Dodi, a vibrant community nestled in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

Aligned with Vodafone Ghana’s commitment to social responsibility, the initiative provided free medical care to over 583 residents.

A dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists delivered their expertise, conducting screenings for prevalent ailments such as blood pressure, blood glucose, typhoid, Hepatitis B, malaria as well as ultrasound scans.

Beyond diagnosis, the Health fest programme embraced a comprehensive approach to community well-being by distributing essential medication to those in need.


The impact of care extended further, with the Foundation enrolling over 350 individuals on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for continued healthcare support.

Nana Okoampa Gyasi II, Dodi Hene, expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging the Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s empathetic stance towards the health of the people.

He commended the Foundation for extending the Health fest program to their community and urged them to persevere in their noble endeavours.

Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Manager for Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Sustainability and External Communication said, “When we visited some of the communities of the Akosombo dam spillage last month, there were reports of health challenges in the communities, and so we thought it prudent to follow up with our Health fest initiative to provide some medical relief to the community members. We are proud of this initiative and remain committed to improving the well-being of our communities”.

MTN support Eastern Regional Hospital with 25 pints of blood

Koforidua, Feb 18, GNA – Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) Ghana, has supported the Eastern Regional hospital in Koforidua with 255 pints of blood to improve quality healthcare delivery.

This forms part of the annual blood donation exercise of the MTN Ghana Foundation dubbed, ‘Save A Life.’

The ‘Save a Life’ campaign organised on February 14, every year aims at mobilising the public to voluntarily donate blood to support the Blood Banks of various hospitals across the country.

Over the years, the MTN Ghana Foundation had been committed to supporting the development of sustainable social interventions across the country.

Mr Ransford Gyan, MTN Regional area sales manager of Eastern, Volta and Oti regions, noted that since its inception in 2011, the MTN Save a Life Campaign had yielded positive results and this year’s target of the campaign was to get about 7, 000 units of blood.
Madam Philomina Qauyson, a senior health staff at the blood Bank of the hospital, commended MTN for the initiative.

She was optimistic that the annual campaign by MTN would address critical gaps in blood supply and promote voluntary blood donation.
