Telecommunications Chamber engages Committee on Communications on key industry issues

Leadership of Parliament’s Select Committee on Communications (PSCC) along with the Ghana Telecommunications Chamber, have advocated increased collaboration amongst the two entities to help fast track the resolution of key issues plaguing the telecommunications industry.

 This was made known at a meeting organized by the Chamber on August 12, 2022, to allow for dialogue between the heads of the members of the Chamber, and members of the Committee on Communications.

 Some key issues that were broached at the 4-hour engagement include Coverage, Quality of Service Challenges, Universal License Regime, Growth in Data Demand, Spectrum Deficit and Pricing, Taxation of the industry, Revision of Guidelines for the Deployment of Communications Towers, and the Persistent destruction of telecommunications infrastructure.

 Other topics discussed were Maximizing Effectiveness of E-Levy while mitigating the Risks & Mobile Money Universality (Merchant Interoperability), Revision of Quality-of-Service Regulations, 5G Preparedness, and the promotion of the use of renewable energy.

Key personalities who participated in the engagement were the Vice Chairperson of the PSCC, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh, Deputy Ranking Member of the PSCC, Hon. Sam George, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed as well as other members of the committee.


 

 

Leadership of the members of the Chamber including Patricia Obo-Nai, Vodafone CEO, Mr. Selorm Adadevoh, MTN CEO, Leo Skarlatos, Airteltigo CEO, Richard Arthur, Ericsson Country Manager, Enid Kanor, Head of Legal at ATC Ghana and the CEO of the Chamber Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey were also present.
