Accra, Mar. 5, GNA – The MTN Ghana Foundation is to distribute 270,000 nose masks to six schools in the Korle Klottey Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The donation is in response to Ghana Health Service’s alert for the public to mask up due to the climatic conditions being experienced in recent times.

Mr Ebenezer Terkpeh, Education Portfolio Advisor, MTN Ghana Foundation, said the schools include the St. Barnabas Anglican School and Khairiyah Islamic Basic School in the Korle Klottey Municipality.

“We are starting with Khairiyah Islamic Basic School because our Head Office is situated in Korle Klottey, but we will extend it to the other five schools as well,” Mr Terkpeh added.
He advised all to wear masks often to stay away from climate related diseases.

Seventy senior high schools (SHSs) from all 16 regions of the country are expected to compete for the ultimate prize in this year’s National Cybersecurity Challenge (NCC).

The participants would be exhibiting their skills and knowledge on how to stay safe online and to avoid conflicting with the law and online protection provisions in the Cybersecurity Act, (Act 1038), 2020, among other cybersecurity issues.

The third edition of the competition, which was launched in Accra last Wednesday, is on the theme: “Empowering young minds, creating opportunities, promoting a safer digital Ghana”.

The competition, which will commence in July this year, forms part of efforts by the Cyber Security Authority to promote cyber safety and awareness among high school students by providing them with firsthand experiences in identifying, preventing and mitigating digital threats, especially online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced that processes are underway to develop a local content legislation for the telecommunications sector.

“We are in the process of passing local content legislation for the telecommunications sector and have directed that certain categories of managed services in the telecom sector should be reserved for local Ghanaian companies only,” she noted.

She said the initiative aims to fortify the nation’s ability to oversee its digital infrastructure, applications and services independently, reducing reliance on costly foreign consultants and contractors.

The minister underscored the presence of competent local alternatives, highlighting the potential for sustainable growth and development within the sector.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) hosted a Consumer Forum at the UDS Auditorium, Tamale on April 17, 2024.

This event, which is in line with the Authority’s mandate stipulated in Section 26 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), was aimed at engaging with consumers to assess their opinions on the performance of Service Providers.

Held under the theme "Safeguarding Consumer Rights through Effective Communication", the Forum fostered dialogue and collaboration between consumers, Service Providers, the NCA and relevant stakeholders within the industry.

Discussions at the Forum bordered on topics such as Quality of Service, SIM Card Registration, Money Doubling schemes on Television (egregious content), Mobile Money fraud, recent internet disruptions, and issues on Mast and Towers.
